What Is A Good Motorcycle For A First-time Buyer?

I am a slender young woman, so something not too bulky/large! Also one that isn’t horribly expensive. Thanks

  1. 250cc cruisers are easiest to learn on. You should be able to find a low mileage Yamaha V Star or Honda Rebel that has been traded in. We found a used 250cc V Star that was still under warranty, for daughter, at the dealership.

Definitely start out with a 250cc bike. You can get one from the 70s or 80s for around $800 – $1200 or more. If you want one new or just a couple of years old, it’ll cost around $3000 depending on what you get.

If you plan on doing a lot of highway travel, the 250cc bikes may have a hard time keeping up with traffic. They’ll go around 60 mph. Good luck!

It is a generally accepted fact that the larger the engine (cc), the heavier the bike. (True in most cases)
If you are going to be riding on paved roads, a 250cc would be perfect. My top picks would be :
    Sportbike – Ninja 250r
Cruiser – Suzuki GZ 250 OR Honda Rebel 250
These bikes are light, generally built for people under 5′9, and are very very forgiving for first-time rider mistakes.
These are also some of the cheapest and most sought-after bikes out there. Perfect for when you want to upgrade to something more powerful (if you choose to)

Stay away from cruisers. They have a ridiculous riding position that will retard your development as a rider. To my mind, the best beginner bikes are the small (200-250cc) dual sports. The kawasaki 250 Super Sherpa is an easy to manage bike with a low seat height, but there are plenty out there from all the major manufacturers.
